As well as extreme clutch holding ability.All this is done to improve the reliability of the 68RFE 6-speed transmission. The ATS Co-Pilot also controls torque converter lock-up based on vehicle speed, engine load, throttle position and boost pressure. Allows lockup in 2nd gear!
The ATS Co-Pilot transmission computer has many features that increase transmission reliability and performance. The Co-Pilot can be used on a stock factory 68-RFE transmissions or any aftermarket transmission although the ATS Co-Pilot has been specifically designed for use with the ATS transmission package.
In situations where the vehicle owner requires transmission holding ability above approximately 400HP the addition of the ATS Transmission and Five Star torque converter will be required due to the fact that the factory transmission and converter have mechanical and hydraulic limitations. Regardless of the transmission that the Co-Pilot is installed on all functionality will be present after the Co-Pilot is installed. The Co-Pilot also has a feature built into it that totally eliminates the problematic "low-sprag or low-roller clutch" blow up syndrome that is common with the 68-RFE transmission
Operation of the 68-RFE Co-Pilot:
The ATS Co-Pilot commands the line pressure and internal clutch timing within the transmission to vastly improve the reliability of the 68-RFE 6-speed transmission. The ATS Co-Pilot has 4 driving settings; stock mode and 3 performance modes. To switch between these four modes, you simply use the UP and DOWN arrow keys on the front panel. Switching between driving modes can be done while driving. The ATS 68RFE Co-Pilot Lock-Up version will also control the torque converter clutch and lock it sooner than stock. This allows more power to the ground, at a lower speed, while increasing the responsiveness of the vehicle.
Modes Available in Co-Pilot:
This mode is entirely stock, meaning the Co-Pilot is not controlling any torque converter or transmission functions.
In all performance settings the same base lockup table is used, which is based off the boost produced and APPS/TPS position. Lockup also occurs when decelerating in all modes, and will unlock around 26 MPH in most scenarios.
This mode keeps the torque convertor 'loose' to allow big turbo chargers to spool easier, but still locks the torque converter under high power boost conditions. This will allow the torque converter clutch to unlock at speeds as high as 65 MPH. The unlock is based on how much boost pressure and how much change there is in the APPS/TPS percentage. Line pressure is also raised above stock mode. Unlock only occurs if there isn't enough boost produced.

The unlock is based on how much boost pressure and how much change there is in the APPS/TPS percentage. Line pressure is also raised above the previous mode. Unlock only occurs if there isn't enough boost produced.
